ExCampus (Extended Campus) is an extended future education platform, which extends the place for sharing knowledge and engaging in free discussions beyond campus, bridging universities and society.
For Season 1 of ExCampus, 11 faculty members from Sungkyunkwan University participated as speakers, giving short talks. The university is planning to provide English and Chinese subtitles for foreigners.
President Dong Ryeol Shin explained the background for this endeavor, saying, “ExCampus is the vision and will of our university toward student success and the creation of future values. The future university vision that Sungkyunkwan University is pursuing aims to offer a knowledge-sharing platform, where any students can access learning opportunities, whenever and wherever, sailing through large sea of knowledge for their future and dreams.”
Prof. Jongwoo Oh from the Department of Russian Language and Literature shared his impressions, saying “‘Ex’ is a go-ahead prefix. The words including ‘Ex’ have the meaning of ‘go out jumping over the present limit.’
Intelligence allows us to experience the world, explore, expand our world, and extend expensively. ExCampus will open a much broader world in the future.”
Jongwon Huh, a junior, majoring in Culture & Technology, said, “I realized we can approach physics easily after attending a lecture by Prof. Beom Jun Kim in the Department of Physics. […] I used that occasion to take the ‘Smart phone and Phono Sapiens’ class for summer challenge semester, because I felt the need to explore various fields.”
Chaelim Lee, a freshman humanities major, remarked, “I thought I needed to look at the world in a broader way, crossing disciplines not tied to my major. […] ExCampus is a groundwork to develop convergence capabilities and offers opportunities to grow as a person with creative and convergent talents.”
Prof. Sang Hoon Bae, the head of Student Success Center, declared, “We plan to expand ExCampus as an extensive knowledge-sharing platform by inviting both Korean and global scholars and celebrities to be speakers.” He further added, “We hope that Season 2 will include well-known lecturers from other universities and institutions, and for Season 3 in 2021, ExCampus will extend to include global scholars.”
